NEWS : Results from Global Design Survey
In June and July of this year the Danish Ministry of Economic and Business affairs conducted a web-survey that looked into the globalisation of the design industry and where that industry is headed in the future. We now forward the most important results to you.
A top ten list of the leading design nations: Top 10:
1 UK
2 Italy
3 USA
4 Netherlands
5 Denmark
6 Germany
7 Japan
8 Finland
9 Sweden
10 France
The survey showed that the following four design disciplines are expected to be the most important in the future. Digital and multimedia design gained almost twice as many votes as the runner up; Product and industrial design
1 Digital and multimedia design (+game design)
2 Product and industrial design
3 Communications design (+graphic design)
4 User centred innovation
The survey identified the following conditions to be the most important for growth in the design industry. Notice the emphasis on education and quality.
1 Improving education of designers
2 Presence of good design schools
3 Qualification of designers
4 Building up/improving networks for designers
5 The presence of knowledge centers
6 Government programs and investment
7 Varied demand for design
8 Public-private collaboration
9 National design brand
10 Improving patent rights for design
