EXHIBITION : Growing Up: 20 Years of the Unitec – Jewellery Studio, 22 July – 19 August 2006, curated by Karl Chitham

2006 will be the Unitec Jewellery Studio’s 20th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion and to highlight the success of both the course and it’s many graduates, Objectspace will be hosting an exhibition titled Growing Up: 20 Years of the Unitec Jewellery Studio. The exhibition is has been curated by Karl Chitham (Objectspace Programme Co-ordinator) with Pauline Bern and Alan Preston acting as consultants.

The exhibition will feature 13 contemporary jewellery makers, including Areta Wilkinson, Jane Dodd, Jasmine Watson (Lord of the Rings and Narnia), Joanna Campbell, Tania Patterson, Octavia Cook, Anna Whitley, Anna Ward, Tatjana Panyoczki, Joe Sheehan, Jonathan Hopcroft, Ilse-marie Erl and Gina Matchitt. Each maker will be represented in the exhibition by multiple bodies of previous and new works from throughout their careers, including commercial, exhibition and commission pieces which exemplify each individual’s practice to date.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication which will include an introduction by the curator, essays and chronologies of the course and of jewellery practice in New Zealand and individual information for each maker in the exhibition.
