STORYTELLING: Te Haerenga -- The Journey

If you missed the storytelling show Te Haerenga -- The Journey during the Fringe Festival last year, now's your opportunity with a new season coming up 8 - 10 June at Drama Christi Studio!

Te Haerenga is the combined story of how life's journeys shape the people we become and it features four Wellington Storytellers:

* Moira Wairama's story traces the journey of a woman moving from a mono-cultural, mono-lingual family background to becoming bi-cultural and bi-lingual

* Tony Hopkins' story is one of moving away from his black upbringing in Washington DC and travelling the world to once again claim himself as a black man and a storyteller

* Ralph Johnson's journey is one of coming up against the narrow view of what it was to be a man and claiming his own unique style of manhood

* Mary-Alice Arthur's journey has taken her around the world to finally claim both Northern and Southern Hemisphere while still answering the question "Where are you from?"

Te Haerenga is a weaving in the finest sense -- a threading together of the joy and pain of life journeys, told with humour, poignancy and guts. It will make you laugh and it will leave you thinking.

Te Haerenga has a season coming up at Drama Christi Studio 8 - 10 June (bookings 385 4974) and will also be playing at the Glistening Waters International Festival of Storytelling in Masterton 22 - 24 June (www.glisteningwaters.co.nz).

For all of you interested in storytelling, the Festival is a fabulous opportunity to see some great local and international tellers in action and to take part in workshops that can take your skills further. Check the website.

May the stories be shared...
